NatWest CricketForce
NatWest CricketForce is a volunteering initiative aimed at rejuvenating the nation’s cricketing facilities. It encourages cricket supporters, their friends and families to give something back to their local community cricket club by volunteering to undertake major renovations to clubhouses and grounds.
Volunteer Coordinator Workshop
The workshop look’s at the benefits for the club in appointing a Volunteer Coordinator, the role they can undertake to ensure you have enough volunteers for your club along, information about being the vCricket scheme and some really useful information about volunteer management!
The workshop can be for a Club committee member, someone who is being asked to consider being a Volunteer Coordinator or a Volunteer Coordinator themselves. If you do not already have a Volunteer Coordinator at present, it might be useful to think about who might undertake the role.
The workshop will be run by Claire Thorby and Jenny Lowe.
We will be running a Volunteer Coordinator’s workshop in September for all focus clubs who have not already attended a course but if your club is interested in sending someone on the workshop then do let us know.
How to manage volunteers?
Managing volunteers can seem a hard task. It can, however, be simple and rewarding by following these simple procedures:
- Appoint a Club Volunteer Co-ordinator – they can manage your volunteers and ensure that they are happy with their role in your club.
- Attend a Volunteer Coordinator’s workshop. See below.
- Develop a role description – it shows the volunteer clear guidelines of what you expect from them.
- Help existing volunteers – give them more responsibility and assist them in personal development e.g. coaching qualifications.
- Make volunteers welcome – invite them to competitions, offer rewards.
- Use Volunteer Centres to advertise roles – they will use www.do-it.org which is a comprehensive database of volunteers wanting to help sports clubs and other organisations. Sign-up to advertise your volunteer opportunities.

A message from Claire
I have been appointed as vCricket Volunteer Coordinator for the Cambridgeshire Cricket Board to work with the clubs and the leagues in the county to assist in recruiting, rewarding and retaining volunteers. My overall aim is to increase the amount of volunteers involved in cricket in Cambridgeshire. My role will include:
- Training and supporting Club Volunteer Coordinators who can make a huge difference to volunteer management in a club.
- Recruiting 16 to 25 year olds to volunteer in clubs and to register them for the vCricket scheme.
- Assisting with Be Involved evenings and promoting CricketForce to encourage new volunteers into clubs.
- To encourage nominations for the OSCA’s to ensure volunteers are rewarded and recognised for what they contribute to cricket.
- To work with the leagues to recruit more volunteers to fill official roles.
